OATES AUCTIONEERS report a big change in the property market in 2015. There were very strong sales in residential and agricultural land with a flurry of activity to report. The purchasers are back in the market but the housing stock is very low and this is resulting in a supply deficit and thus an increase in house price not witnessed since 2006/2007. All indications are that price increases will continue into 2016 with no new developments due to commence in the immediate area.

Agricultural property has also continued to sell well with up to €10,000 an acre being achieved for top class lands. Forestry land is also in high demand with excellent long tern returns available for prospective clients, many now seeing forestry as the ideal pension investment.

Commercial property in the Roscommon Town region has had a slow year; however Athlone continues to buck the trend with a very high commercial and industrial base. Looking forward, Aengus Oates pointed out that Athlone is by far the biggest market for Roscommon based residential property being only 30 minutes’ drive away and with a large expanding workforce. Athlone based purchasers are continuing to purchase in large numbers in Roscommon Town and surrounding villages. With this in mind Aengus Oates is encouraging all property sellers to list their properties in both OATES AUCTIONEERS ATHLONE and OATES AUCTIONEERS ROSCOMMON. We provide this dual listing and marketing of properties at no extra cost.

We look forward to 2016 with optimism for another successful year with stronger prices and more finance becoming available. We would like to thank all our clients for their loyal custom and wish everyone a Happy Christmas and Prosperous 2016.
